Conference Instructors

NMRWA is accepting applications for professionals interested in presenting at our 2008 Annual Conference. We are asking potential presenters to fill out the information below. Please provide the most accurate information possible. The NMRWA conference committee will review the application and verify that the presentation fits both the conference objectives and the NMRWA mission. The conference committee will then contact presenters with an invitation to present. Presenters will then be required to send NMRWA a full presentation abstract, biography and presentation needs in a timely manner. Exhibiter Demonstration Class titles and descriptions will be solicited directly from exhibitors. Presenters are an integral part of making the NMRWA annual conference a success. Thank you for your interest!

General Guidelines

The New Mexico Rural Water Association Annual Technical Conference is the premier training forum for water and wastewater industry operators, managers and decision makers in the State. The Association invites professional presentations on all suitable topics related to the industry. Class descriptions, instructor biographies and contact information will be printed in the Conference Program. Eligible classes will be assigned New Mexico Operator Certification Credits. Most classes are scheduled for 90 minutes, however the Conference schedule may accommodate classes of varying length. Instructors should be prepared to begin their class on time and fill the entire block allotted. Questions from the attendees are encouraged, and typically fill at least 15 minutes of time. Instructors receive a free conference registration for all classes and the Technology Exhibit Hall, plus a free ticket to all meal events. NMRWA reserves the right to accept or reject any proposed class or instructor.

Class Title

The title for your presentation should be a concise, straightforward description of the primary content of the class. Avoid long or complex class titles.

Class Description

The class description will be printed in the conference program, and should give attendees an overview of the major topics of your class. Descriptions should be between 75 - 100 words, longer descriptions may be submitted, but will be edited due to space constraints. Electronic submissions are preferred, please use the form above to submit your class description.

Handouts / Materials

If you choose to provide materials, you should plan to make 35 - 50 copies. Conference attendees are free to select the classes they wish, so classes may have more or less people in attendance. If you have more participants than materials, you may pass around a sign-up sheet and NMRWA will mail copies of your materials after the conference.

For the first time, NMRWA will make PowerPoint presentations and handouts available after the Conference on this website. Please ensure that we have electronic copies of your presentation and any handouts.

Class Procedure

Your classroom will be set up according to the audiovisual requirements you indicate on the Instructor Information Form. All classrooms have a projection screen and a wired clip-on microphone. You may elect not to use the microphone, but unless you have a very strong speaking voice, conference participants will prefer that you use the sound system. Your presentation will be introduced by a conference host. This person will also pass around a class sign-in sheet, and evaluation forms. Your class will also have a technical assistant who will identify themselves to you before your class begins. If you have any needs or concerns, your technical assistant will help you. If your class has operator certification credits, the technical assistant will stamp attendee certification cards at the end of the class. Please remind participants to fill out evaluation forms at the end. Any questions or requests regarding certification credits should be referred to the technical assistant.

Exhibitor Demonstration Classes

Exhibitor Demonstration Classes will be offered on Tuesday afternoon, and allow for hands-on instruction in a small group setting. The classes will take place inside the exhibit hall, where exhibitors will offer 30-minute demonstration classes at their booths. There will be five time blocks and participants will attend a new session for each block. A separate stamp card with special instructions will be included in the registration packets.

Pre-registration is required to participate in the Exhibitor Demonstration classes. Participants must sign up for the particular demonstration classes and time they would like to attend at the exhibitor's booth. Sign up sheets will be located at the designated exhibitor booths on a clip board. Participants will ask the exhibitors to sign up for demonstration classes. Once they have signed up for the class, be sure that they mark down the class and time on the back of their demonstration stamp card. To maximize credit hours, participants should sign up for all five demonstration classes. Registration is first come, first served. Space is limited and early registration is appreciated.

Demonstration classes will follow this schedule:

  • 1:30 - 2:00   Session 1
  • 2:05 - 2:35   Session 2
  • 2:40 - 3:10   Session 3
  • 3:15 - 3:45   Afternoon Break
  • 3:45 - 4:15   Session 4
  • 4:20 - 4:50   Session 5

At least 16 different classes will be offered, and exhibitors will repeat their class for every session so that participants may choose the order in which they attend the sessions. When signing up, participants will fill in their own schedule according to this order. Class size will be limited to 8 people to maximize the opportunity for questions and to address specific needs. When each 30-minute session is over, the exhibitor/instructor will stamp the cards and the participants will proceed immediately to the next booth on their schedule.
